AutoCAD 24.2 [Updated-2022]
AutoCAD was originally designed to work on the AutoCAD 400 graphics terminals introduced by Autodesk in December 1981, and is still compatible with those graphics terminals. But the original AutoCAD did not run on personal computers or workstations running the Microsoft Windows or OS/2 operating systems. To run AutoCAD on personal computers and workstations, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD LT (for lower-cost, lower-end commercial CAD systems) and AutoCAD Web Edition (for low-end web-based CAD systems). To provide additional CAD functionality and ease of use, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD 2010, with a graphics engine known as DXF (Design eXchange Format), as well as a CADD (computer-aided drafting and design) toolset. History Initially known as GrafInfo, AutoCAD was developed by Michael J. Sweetman (chief product manager for Autodesk), who was a former systems engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). Sweetman's initial objective was to create a tool that would allow users to use a personal computer to draw lines on a cathode ray tube screen (CRT). Sweetman designed AutoCAD to run on the UCSD PDP-11 computer developed by the Computer History Museum, which had the specific function of plotting lines on a CRT screen. Sweetman's idea was to put the hardware and software in one package, so that users would not have to separately buy a plotter, computer, and program. Although the initial version of AutoCAD ran on a PDP-11, Sweetman did not expect the software to run on other computers. However, after showing the software to some DEC engineers, they decided that the software would be a good fit for the new DEC Rainbow 110 and 220 computers, which had the hardware necessary to run the software. The DEC engineers were quick to show Sweetman that they could run his software on a personal computer. Initially known as GrafInfo, AutoCAD was originally developed by Michael J. What's New in the AutoCAD?
More design flexibility with the introduction of alignment guides. Increase the precision and flexibility of your drawing by extending baseline, grid, or other geometric alignment components. (video: 1:15 min.) Add multiple dimensions to text and dimension lines with enhanced measurement capabilities. Customize these elements with new measurement attributes. (video: 2:00 min.) Export 2D and 3D views to PDF, JPEG, and PNG. Use Excel-like formulas and conditional formatting to customize output views. (video: 1:30 min.) Export components to native AutoCAD formats. PDF, DXF, DWG, and DGN are all supported as export targets. (video: 1:35 min.) Simplify and speed up manual 3D editing with new 3D Scrub tool. (video: 2:00 min.) Track and send updates to co-located dimensions. View and modify editable dimensions at any location in the drawing. (video: 1:50 min.) Add 3D point, line, polyline, spline, face, surface, shell, and compound curves to drawings. (video: 1:42 min.) Create and edit surfaces with the ability to handle intersections. (video: 1:40 min.) Model and create 3D surfaces in 2D drawing files. 3D shapes are directly imported into 2D drawings, with no editing required. (video: 1:30 min.) More time-saving features with new Highlight tool. (video: 1:30 min.) New features in 2D, 3D and model authoring: Smooth and natural path generation for spline segments. (video: 2:30 min.) Convert existing spline segments to new spline types. For example, from a parametric spline to a non-parametric spline. (video: 1:35 min.) Simplify the drawing of many shapes and create meshes. Create and modify meshes from scratch or convert complex shapes into meshes. (video: 1:45 min.) Edit 2D and 3D views for dynamic refinement. (video: 1:00 min.) New features in 2D and 3D modeling tools: Use exact point location to enable precise editing. (video: 1:15 min.) Edit shape points, fill them with
